Labour Day Weekend

It’s Labour Day weekend here in North America (Labor day south of the border!). Beautiful weather here in Montreal but I’ve spent most of Saturday and Sunday working. I feel a bit panicked because of my upcoming vacation and am trying to get some extra work in.

I need advice from anyone who knows about promoting self-published books. The sales of Oscar’s Diaries took off well in the first couple of weeks and now – nothing. I’m putting together press kits and I have a few plans of groups to contact, but because it’s a book that doesn’t fall into any particular genre, I’m stumped at how to get it out in the public eye.

So, any suggestions are more than welcome.

And that’s it for my Labour day posting. I’ll be back tomorrow with something just a wee bit more interesting!

Hi Marijke,

Once again you are linked to a post on women of mystery. Laura does a nice piece on how our visitors arrive at our site.

Publicity is a really tough thing. I have a story in an anthology called Murder New York Style which will be released by a small independent press in November, and we are going through the "what to do about publicity" angst right now.

Have you tried the newsletters of greyhound groups and racing groups? What about the holiday catalogues of some animal rights groups. And the hordes of local newspapers who are dying for fresh news. Having said that, I warn you, publicity could become your life's work.

here's hoping a bit of work on publicity each day will yield results over time.

Thanks Terrie. I'm going to have to get on the publicity bandwagon; maybe this is a good time because soon the Christmas stuff will be out. Oh joy. LOL
